The Magcubic HY320F is one of the more unusual-looking portable projectors in the HY320 lineup. Instead of the conventional cylindrical design used by many budget projectors, the HY320F uses a football-inspired enclosure supported by a rotating stand.

But the design is only part of the story.

Magcubic gives the HY320F native 1080p resolution, a 500 ANSI brightness rating, Android 14, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, electronic focus, automatic vertical keystone correction, and a short 0.8:1 throw ratio.

At the time of this review, Magcubic lists the HY320F at around $111.99, putting it only slightly above the HY320Pro.

So, does the HY320F offer enough to justify its price?

Review note: Blog60s has not conducted hands-on testing of the Magcubic HY320F. This article is a research-based review using manufacturer specifications and publicly available product information. Manufacturer performance claims are not presented as independent Blog60s measurements. Prices, specifications, software features, and availability may change over time.

Key features advertised by Magcubic for the HY320F.

A Very Different Projector Design

The HY320F immediately stands out from most inexpensive portable projectors.

Its enclosure resembles a football, while two curved supports hold the projector above a circular base. Magcubic specifically describes it as a football-inspired design.

Whether that appearance is appealing is obviously a matter of personal preference, but it does give the HY320F more visual personality than a typical rectangular projector.

More importantly, the design allows the projection angle to be adjusted without necessarily requiring a separate stand.

Magcubic lists the projector at approximately 160 × 195.5 × 222.5 mm and about 0.88 kg, making it relatively easy to move between rooms.

The HY320F combines a distinctive football-inspired enclosure with a portable form factor.

One point needs clarification, however: portable does not mean cordless.

The HY320F does not have an internal battery, according to Magcubic's specification table, so it still requires an external power source during use.

Native 1080p and 8K Decoding Explained

This is one of the most important specifications to understand correctly.

Magcubic advertises the HY320F with 8K decoding, but the projector itself has a native resolution of:

1920 × 1080 pixels.

In other words, the HY320F is a native Full HD 1080p projector, not a native 8K projector. Magcubic's own specifications identify the optical resolution as 1920×1080.

The 8K terminology refers to decoding or compatibility with higher-resolution source material, not the number of pixels physically displayed by the projector.

The HY320F is native 1080p; Magcubic's “8K” claim refers to decoding rather than native projection resolution.

This distinction matters because phrases such as “8K support” can otherwise create unrealistic expectations.

For actual projected resolution, 1080p is the relevant number.

How Bright Is 500 ANSI?

Magcubic rates the HY320F at 500 ANSI lumens, compared with 400 ANSI for the HY320Pro.

On paper, that gives the HY320F a brightness advantage within the HY320 family.

But 500 ANSI should still be considered within the context of an inexpensive portable projector.

The HY320F should make the most sense in environments such as bedrooms at night, darkened living rooms, movie rooms with controlled lighting, or other spaces where strong ambient light can be reduced.

It should not be assumed that promotional images showing bright projections in daylight represent what every buyer will see in real-world conditions.

Blog60s has not independently measured the HY320F's light output, brightness uniformity, black levels, or color accuracy.

0.8:1 Short Throw Ratio

One particularly interesting HY320F specification is its 0.8:1 throw ratio.

Magcubic's current HY320 comparison information lists the HY320F at 0.8:1, compared with 1.0:1 for the HY320Pro.

A shorter throw ratio allows the projector to create a relatively large picture from a shorter distance.

Magcubic advertises a projection range of approximately 35 to 135 inches for the HY320F.

Magcubic advertises a 0.8:1 throw ratio and projection sizes up to approximately 135 inches for the HY320F.

This can be useful in bedrooms and smaller apartments where there may not be enough distance between the projector and wall for a conventional long-throw setup.

However, maximum image size should not automatically be the goal. Increasing projection size spreads the available light across a larger area, which can reduce perceived brightness.

Electronic Focus vs Autofocus

This is an important difference between the HY320F and HY320Pro.

The HY320F uses electronic focus.

That means focus can be adjusted electronically rather than by physically turning a focus ring, but it should not be described as autofocus.

Magcubic's own comparison identifies:

HY320F — Electronic Focus

HY320Pro — Auto Focus

This distinction will become especially important when we compare these two projectors directly.

Electronic focus is still more convenient than traditional manual lens adjustment, but the user remains involved in getting the image sharp.

Keystone Correction

The HY320F supports automatic vertical keystone correction, while horizontal adjustment is listed as manual.

Keystone correction is designed to help straighten an image when the projector is positioned at an angle relative to the wall or screen.

This can make temporary setups easier.

However, digital correction should not replace good projector positioning when physical alignment is possible. Keeping the projector reasonably square to the projection surface generally reduces the amount of digital correction required.

Android 14 Smart Features

The HY320F runs Android 14 and uses an Allwinner H726 processor.

Magcubic lists 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.

Built-in Android allows the projector to run supported applications without requiring an external streaming device for every task.

But buyers should keep expectations realistic.

1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage are modest specifications for an Android device, particularly compared with modern phones and premium streaming hardware.

Streaming compatibility is another consideration.

Having Android does not automatically guarantee that every streaming service will provide its highest supported resolution or full DRM compatibility.

If Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, or another particular service is essential, check its current compatibility before purchasing.

An HDMI streaming stick remains an alternative if the internal software does not meet your needs.

Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4

The HY320F includes Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4, according to Magcubic.

Wi-Fi supports its smart functions and compatible wireless mirroring, while Bluetooth provides another option for connecting compatible audio devices and accessories.

Wireless performance will still depend on factors such as router quality, distance, interference, connected hardware, and software.

Therefore, specifications such as Wi-Fi 6 should not be interpreted as a guarantee of latency-free wireless video.

Connectivity

Magcubic lists the HY320F with HDMI and USB connectivity, in addition to its wireless features.

That is useful because the projector does not have to depend entirely on its internal Android platform.

External sources can potentially include:

  • Streaming sticks
  • Laptops
  • Game consoles
  • Compatible media devices
  • USB storage

For long-term use, HDMI is particularly valuable because an external streaming device can replace or supplement the projector's internal smart platform.

What About Gaming?

The large projected image could make the HY320F appealing for casual console gaming, and HDMI allows compatible external gaming hardware to be connected.

However, Blog60s has not independently measured the projector's input lag.

For that reason, we would not describe the HY320F as a verified low-latency gaming projector.

Casual games and big-screen entertainment are different use cases from competitive shooters, rhythm games, and other titles where input response can be critical.

Buyers specifically interested in competitive gaming should look for independently measured latency data.

Built-In Speaker

The HY320F includes a built-in speaker.

Magcubic's broader HY320 specification comparison lists the model with a 1 × 3W speaker.

Integrated audio is convenient for portable setups because the projector can be used without immediately connecting a separate sound system.

However, buyers seeking stronger bass, greater volume, or a more cinematic audio presentation may still prefer an external speaker or audio system.

Who Should Consider the Magcubic HY320F?

Based on its published specifications, the HY320F makes the most sense for buyers looking for an inexpensive smart projector that prioritizes a relatively bright image, short throw distance, and portable design.

It may be particularly interesting for:

  • Bedroom movie setups
  • Small apartments
  • Casual home theaters
  • Sports viewing
  • Family movie nights
  • Occasional big-screen gaming
  • Rooms where projection distance is limited

The 0.8:1 throw ratio is one of its more distinctive practical advantages, while the 500 ANSI rating gives it a specification advantage over the 400-ANSI HY320Pro.

On the other hand, buyers who value completely automatic focusing may prefer a model with autofocus rather than the HY320F's electronic focus system.

Is the Magcubic HY320F Worth Considering?

At its current price of approximately $111.99, the HY320F offers a substantial feature list for a budget portable projector: native 1080p, 500 ANSI brightness, Android 14, electronic focus, automatic vertical keystone correction, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, a short 0.8:1 throw ratio, and a distinctive portable enclosure.

Its most compelling characteristics on paper are the combination of 500 ANSI brightness and short-throw projection.

There are compromises. It does not have a battery, its Android hardware is modest, electronic focus should not be confused with autofocus, and its 8K terminology refers to decoding rather than native display resolution.

For buyers who understand those limitations and primarily want affordable big-screen entertainment in a controlled-light environment, the HY320F has a feature set worth examining.
